By adjusting work shifts and rotating working hours allows workers to manage personal commitments and contribute to a more balanced lifestyle.
Regular Breaks
Construction workers are engaged in heavy muscular work thus encouraging regular breaks will be effective. Research indicates that short breaks can enhance focus and reduce fatigue, leading to improved productivity (Korpelainen et al., 2021). Site Managers can implement scheduled breaks, making room to rest, hydrate, and regroup, which can improve the efficiency of workers.
Mental Health Support
A survey conducted by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), UK found that mental health issues are prevalent among construction workers, with many feeling isolated and stressed (CITB, 2023). Providing them with simple mental stress release activities within the organisation can create an environment where workers feel comfortable discussing mental health and encouraging them to ask for help when needed.
Encourage Time Off
it is crucial to encourage the workers to take their vacation days and time off regularly. A well-rested worker is more productive and active. Companies should look through that perspective and initiate a culture of valuing rest and recovery to enhance the work-life balance as well as the productivity of the organization
Conclusion
Construction workers more often try to work more hours to obtain more salary which may affect negatively in their work-life balance. Implementing flexible scheduling, providing with regular breaks, and mental health support, and encouraging them for time off can create a more efficient work environment. Not only for the workers, these will eventually benefit the overall efficiency of the project, and then the organization. Giving priority to Work-life balance will be an investment, which makes workers more productive, and improve employee satisfaction.
